Valentines Dinner

It is becoming a tradition of our Lummi Island Grange for the men to treat the women of the Grange to a special dinner for Valentine's Day. The first dinner was in 2008 when then President, Mel Kolstad got a group of men together at his home to practice cooking spare ribs. Since then, they have served ham, Mediterranean chicken, and prime rib. Men volunteered to cook, one made salads, another made deserts, while another did the decorations. Table hosts set their table with special dishes and utensils from home - no paper plates. The tables - all different- were beautiful.

Each year since that first dinner, Mel has planned the menu with help from other men of the Grange. The number attending has grown to a high of 66. The men have shopped, cooked, set up tables, chairs, decorated, and hosted tables that they set with favorite dishes from home. Place cards were made to determine seating. Before dinner appetizers have been served along with beverages served by an appointed bar tender. Games have added fun and laughter.

The men are busy the entire evening serving the women of the Grange. The women absolutely love it!! At the end of the evening, those wonderful men clean it all up. The dinner has been suspended until after COVID 19.
